The Shack

I just finished reading The Shack and all I can say is, WOW!  This is personally the most thought provoking book I have ever read.  Not many times do I want to reread a book, but I want to read this over and over.

Working some cattle

Pictures from the day

We got up early this morning and hooked up the trailer and went over to Big'n and Staci's to load up some of their cattle.  Unfortunately first we had to fix the lights on our trailer after we got there.  Luckily Big'n is great at that type of stuff.

We finally got our of their place a little after 10am as the plan was to take the two trailer loads over to Big'n's mom's place in Hutto and then he was going to pick up Shelby from work around noon and we would start working the cattle then.

Well between their house and ours we first saw a black lab walking up the road.  It had a collar and although we had never seen the dog before, we really didn't think much of it.  Then just down the road a little further we saw two more dogs and they were in BAD shape.  They had clearly been fighting and both were bloody and exhausted.  One was in much worse shape than the other and was wheezing really bad.  Unfortunately both were in-tact male pit bulls or pit bull crosses.  We put one in the tack room of our trailer and the other on the back of Big'n's truck and decided to take them to Taylor PD and have them call Animal Control.

After getting to Taylor PD and having the Animal Control Officer show up, it was obvious that the one would probably not make it.  Big'n gave the Animal Control Officer his number and after we got back tonight the lady that owned both of them had left a message that the one did pass and she wanted to know what he knew about what happened.

Anyway we finally got to Judy's and unloaded all the cattle.  Then Big'n went to get Shelby and pick up another load of cattle.

It wound up being a very long day and we worked close to 80 head.  Each one got weighed, got their horns measured and got their shots.  One of them also got it's brand.

I took a bunch of pictures and uploaded them.  You can see them here.  Pictures from the day

We also decided to get another young heifer since Stanley went to Taylor Meat on Tuesday to be processed.  Her name is Black Diamonds and we'll probably bring her home in a couple of weeks.

We finally got down about 6pm and took all the cattle back to Big'n's - 3 trailer loads!  Great day!
